Woman of the Month - Shoshana Ribeiro

Real Estate is not for the faint at heart. Don’t let reality television shows fool you into believing that it’s a natural or entertaining process. This past month I had the pleasure of speaking with Shoshana Ribeiro, an agent at Brown Harris Stevens in New York, about the joy, the horror, and mandatory flexibility needed to contend in the arena that is Real Estate.

Shoshana’s day to day does not look like Million Dollar Listing, especially now as we are still in multiple pandemics. While T.V. shows present the glamour of it, stay at home orders prohibit soliciting and showings of properties, a mandate that has had a significant effect on business. As you know, a considerable part of the sale depends on being able to see a get a feel of the property. What’s the solution here? What is necessary for surviving this shift? The answer is virtual tours and published videos of features. All is not lost. Having the inventory and the network helps as well. When Shoshana started four years ago on a whim, helping a friend, she had no idea that she’d be here now. In the beginning, Real Estate was not something she enjoyed. Although the flexibility is appealing, the idea of not having a set salary and knowing what to expect, not so much.

Nonetheless, she perseveres and has learned to flex and succeed in a business that has no guarantees. Research, viewings and open houses don’t guarantee interests. Meticulously prepared paperwork does not guarantee sales. Real Estate is a lot like life in that you put in the work, take your chances, and make the best of the outcomes. Strategically, of course, as the goal is not only to seal the deal but create opportunities for future connections and building business. “knowing how to solicit business, create the business, take a lead and flip into multiple leads” makes is all financially worth it. Although New York is only officially in Stage 1 of reopening, having that know-how is a necessary and handy tool that will allow Shoshana to hit the ground running once things are back to “normal.” Needing a place to live is not something that will ever go out of style. Real Estate is a necessity business! A patient business as deals can take anywhere from “days to months; it depends on the client need, financials, and property owners.” While we are prioritizing health, the truth is, “if you have the product, they’re still out there. It used to be 4 or 5 hits a day; now, it’s 5 to 10 a week. At the beginning of the pandemic, it was 2 to 3 a week.” So long as there is life, there will be Real Estate.

In short, business is still percolating, and Shoshana is available to meet your needs. If you’re in the market for an apartment, condo, co-op house, etc., please don’t be shy about contacting Shoshana to help. You can reach her at:
